On our visit to Nigeria in February 2011 we were able to take with us a large number of spectacles collected in Nuertingen. These were measured and labelled locally and our partner, Clifford Orjiako, organised their distribution among the needy. This was carried out against the background of a day's free medical care which also included talks on hygiene & disease prevention, medical checks and the provision of necessary drugs.
This offer, supported by two local doctors and four nurses, was embraced with enormous gratitude by the local population, particularly the poorest who could otherwise not afford such medical checks. Overwhelmed they ask after the next planned day of health care.
We continue to collect spectacles and envisage the continuation of this programme. We are most grateful and dependent on financial support under this account.
